The inspiration for Pasta for You came from chefs Larry and Marc Forgione, who sought to reinstate an old Italian concept, namely that eating a dish of pasta is not only healthy and nutritious but also a soul-satisfying experience. Pasta is a true comfort food.
Both highly awarded are known for their culinary talents that have elite customers like Hollywood stars, government officials, and the very wealthy singing praises. They also invest in the less fortunate by donating their time and talent to feed those who cannot feed themselves. The concept is, therefore, to create an initiative – Pasta for You – that would deliver a clear message to recipients that the pasta dish they receive is a gift that is prepared specially for them using the best talent, resources, and food products that would be otherwise inaccessible by the recipients.
A familiar movie scene is that of a large group of family and friends celebrating around a table where the main dish is pasta. Song, stories, and laughter envelope the occasion as all enjoy this simple yet satisfying dish. The evident joy in that small community of diners is a testimony to the power of food to lift the spirit as one is nourished.
Pasta for You seeks to make this an experience for those who have few personal resources. It plans to do so by identifying and enlisting restaurants, initially in the New York City metropolitan area, that are owned or led by forward-thinking business people who will commit to the preparation of 500 (five hundred) or more dishes of pasta for distribution to low-income individuals and families via our associated partners.
